Deep in the heart of Dixie is where The Southern Boys Band first got their start… the summer of 1989 in a small community known as Mount Olive, just north of Birmingham.  The original band members were Wayland and Kenny Bailey, Jeff Roberts, Jeff Haynes and David Manley.  As time passed and members left for other career pursuits, bassist Kevin Sullivan and guitarist Jason Gooch took to the stage. This rag tag crew began to make a name for themselves, playing throughout the South and recording the original songs Dixie Dreamin’, Southern Pride, Swamp Fever, and Bound to Birmingham.

Career moves and scheduling difficulties resulted in Jeff Roberts and Kevin Sullivan saying their farewells.  As a result, Wayland and Kenny brought in their two younger brothers, Kevin and Justin to solidify the nucleus of the band, with Jason Gooch as lead guitarist.  The year 2007 was a bitter sweet chain of events that led to the band becoming a hot commodity.  With the loss of their Uncle George McCorkle it brought them closer together with their cousin Justin McCorkle, who soon became a regular member of the band.  2008 started off with the production of their debut full length CD Old Road, New Travels, video shoots, and impressive performances.

Quite literally they are a “Band of Brothers”.  The band currently consists of brothers, Wayland, Kenny, Justin, and Kevin Bailey.  The boys grew up being inspired by their Uncle George McCorkle of the Marshall Tucker Band.  As fate would have it, their cousin Justin McCorkle (son of George McCorkle) soon signed on as the band’s lead guitarist.  Last, but certainly not least is Ben Scott on keys, second lead, and backing vocals.

The Southern Boys Band have been very blessed to share the stage and become dear friends with some of Southern Rocks greatest musicians including: Jo Jo Billingsley (Lynyrd Skynyrd Band), Gary Allen (Charlie Daniels, JJ Cale), Tommy Crain (Charlie Daniels Band), Denis and Donnie Winters (Winters Brothers Band), Lewis Ross (Wet Willie Band), Dangerous Dan Toler (The Allman Brothers, Gregg Allman Band), Pat Ellwood and several other members of Marshall Tucker Band, Artimus Pyle (Lynyrd Skynyrd Band), Harley (Coconut) Lamoureux (Harmonica Player for Skynyrd, CDB, etc), Jimmie and Jane Van Zant (Southern Rocks Royal Family), Candy Coburn, and more.

In 2007 the boys all came together with their friends to perform a tribute to George McCorkle who passed away on June 29th of cancer.  They dazzled the audiences at both MusiFest and Jam4George.
